Elise on Life – A Musing

Recently, I’ve come to terms with the concept of a “lease” on life.

Because as much as we work to own, to make permanent, to possess….

You can’t take it with you.

I definitely relate to the ancient Egyptians on this one – it’s tempting to try.

In his book Denial of Death, Ernest Becker talks about the concept of “Immortality Projects”

Basically this is the way we humans try to build things that will outlast our lifetimes – creating a legacy of sorts.

Some people try to get famous enough to be immortalized into statues. Some people want to be the artist behind the carving of the statue itself.

Both are valid.

Also valid are all those other types of immortality projects that have nothing to do with chipping away at large hunks of marble.

But the craving itself – to make or be a part of something bigger than ourselves? That’s so human. We want to last longer than we last.

We crave permanance.

And all we have on life is… a lease.

A unique timeline that none of us get notified about up front. We can’t even buy more, unless you count the beauty or medical industries’ involvements in the vanity and health side of the equation.

So. Rather than waiting for a NEW lease on life.

Since we only get the one…

What do you want to do with the one you have?

What have you already done?

(Don’t say nothing. We both know better than that.)

Your value is inherent. The decisions and thoughts you generate each day are unique masterpieces – evidence of your purpose in your limited time here on Earth.

How do we leverage what you’ve already built into a legacy that will tell future generations about what you found to be valuable?

How do we make your growing sense of purpose into something intentional?

How can you begin to design your own legacy?

What would it look like to have it bound in a book that you could hand someone?

A record of your thoughts, beliefs, and unique view of the world?

Let’s optimize it together.

I’m so flipping excited to get started >.<

Authentically,

Elise
